Congress to Hold Another J&J Recall Hearing, World Chair Resigns

By Rheingold Giuffra Ruffo Plotkin & Hellman LLP

The House Committee on Government Oversight and Reform is holding another hearing September 30th to question Johnson & Johnson executives about the massive recall of over the counter medications due to quaility control issues. Atleast one Congressman made a point of mentioning he intends to explore the so called “phantom recall”.

A subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson hired contractors to buy up over the counter medications from stores to avoid bad publicity from the recall.

CEO Bill Weldon will attend the hearings; he was unable to attend the prior one because he was recovering from back surgery. Colleen Goggins, Worldwide Chair of Johnson & Johnson’s consumer group, had attended the meeting in his stead, and has since resigned after 30 years of service with the company. It is not clear whether or not Ms. Goggins will be attending the September hearings or not.
