Intrauterine Devices (IUD) are a commonly utilized form of contraception used around the world by women. An IUD is usually a small piece of plastic that comes in various shapes that is inserted into the uterus to provide birth control. While these results are promising, the women have also suffered unexpected injuries from the usage of IUDs. IUDs can become embedded in the uterus, break or cause a perforation of the uterus. While there are some very effective components of the IUD, women need to be very aware of the dangerous complications that can result as a consequence of this usage. Many women around the nation have filed lawsuits in response to their negative experiences with the device. For example, in 2016, a Nebraska woman, Stephanie Ideus, filed a lawsuit against a Paragard manufacture alleging that the device broke and imbedded into her uterus and needed surgery to remove it.
