Nursing homes are the customary places of care for elderly people who have special needs and require assistance from a medical professional around the clock. Many people entrust their loved ones with nursing homes for many reasons including lack of time due to work commitment. Residents of nursing homes should be treated with care, which includes safety, health, and basic sanitary conditions. Often times these conditions are substandard, which leads to poor living conditions for the residents.
Rosewood Heights Nursing home was cited for 26 violations, three of them classified as “immediate jeopardy,” the most serious type of infraction in a Dec. 7, 2012 inspection recently published by the state Health Department on its website. Rosewood has also received over $10,000 in fines due to violations of safety and health regulations by the state health department. This Syracuse nursing home may be the last place you would want to send your loved one.
The nursing home is cited with several issues. The most serious problems cited in the inspection involved Rosewood’s failure to provide the services necessary to prevent and heal bedsores. Rosewood has been cited for this same problem in the past.
Another one of their problems involves feeding. While there is no evidence that anyone died or was injured, several residents’ health was put in jeopardy due to the staff’s failure to properly supervise the residents during their meals.
It is disheartening to think that a medical care facility specifically intended for caring for the elderly could be so negligent in carrying out its primary purpose.
