Well-known comedian and social commentator Russell Brand has been charged with one allegation of rape, one allegation of indecent assault, one of oral rape and two further counts of sexual assault. The charges run from 1999 until 2005. They include rape, indecent assault, and oral rape.
Brand is believed to be in the United States and may have to be extradited to the United Kingdom to face his May 2, 2025 court hearing. These criminal charges are preceded by civil charges for similar accusations lodged against him in February.
Detectives said they began investigating Brand in September 2023 after receiving a number of allegations, the release said. The tips followed a growing body of reporting in the British press that accused Brand of inappropriate sexual behavior.
Brand maintains his innocence in spite of the civil and criminal complaints against him.
